Why haven't I heard about the Ultra MD™ laser system before now?
A
The Ultra MD™ CO2 laser system has been manufactured since 1981.
The MD was the first CO2 laser that used the "sealed tube" design. This revolutionized the CO2 laser industry. No longer were OR nurses responsible for mounting, regulating, and inventorying tanks of gas to support their CO2 laser.
Dr. Robert Rudko of MIT developed the sealed tube and incorporated it into the earliest models of CO2 MD laser systems. For many years several different laser companies under an OEM agreement marketed the MD laser under their name. Dr. Rudkow and Laser Engineering of Milford Massachusetts sold the manufacturing and distribution rights to SSI of Nashville, TN in 1995. Since that time SSI continued to innovate, manufacture and distribute under the name LEI Ultra MD™. The system is now offered under the name of SSI Laser Engineering Ultra MD™.
